Marriage Equality For All.

Worked with the Labour Party people on this colourful shot for the up coming referendum.
What a lovely group of people we had in the studio. And good luck with the 'Yes' campaign everyone.

Gavin McCrea publishes first novel - Mrs Engels - in London, in May.

Dubliner Gavin McCrea signed a two book deal with international publishers Scribe. Gavin's first book will be published in May. The book, Mrs Engels, tells the true story of Lizzie Burns who, on fleeing the Irish Famine, ends up in a Manchester mill and meets the mill owner and future Karl Marx callaborator Frederick Engels. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Gavin and myself spent an afternoon together photographing publicity material for the book and the portrait for the dust jacket. Here are two shots we did that sunny afternoon in Dublin.

Sacred Space - New Exhibition Opening

Opening Night Thursday February 12th
at 5.30pm
darc space, 26 North Great Georges St., Dublin 1.

The exhibition will be officially opened by
Áodhan Ó Ríordán, T.D., Minister of State
with special responsibility for New Communities, Culture and Equality.

The exhibition will continue until 1st May 2015

I was delighted to be asked to contribute to this very interesting exhibition which deals with the making and unmaking of sacred space in Dublin. Through showcasing the work of communities, architects, academics and photographers, the exhibition celebrates the diversity and potential for inter-culturism of cities in general and Dublin in particular.
Architects and academics will present work and ideas through the exhibition and a series of essays in the associated book which will be launched on the same evening.
My task was to produce a photo essay that would capture the mood and atmosphere of different churches, temples, mosques which were originally commercial buildings. I managed to get access to a variety of locations and was priviledged to experience the fervour and rituals at first hand. It was a fascinating experience and doubly so when I compared this with the monocultural Dublin I grew up in.
Technically this project was a big challenge, most of the Sacred Spaces had very low light levels. I don'think I could have done this project using film - maybe in black and white but certainly not using colour film. Here's a montage of a some of the work.
