How This Mistletoe Can Make Your Christmas Even More Exciting.

A very happy Christmas to you. Download this beautiful, understated photograph of mistletoe to your smartphone, iPad or even laptop. When you meet your unsuspecting partner, colleague, neighbour ... hold smart phone or tablet(not desk top computer), with the mistletoe displayed, over your head. A kiss should be on its way. Yippee!

Eugene Langan Photography, partners and associates cannot accept any responsibility for any negative outcomes, especially slaps, arising from above proposal.
It's just a good old Christmas tradition. Have a great one.

'How to be Irish' published in Germany.

David Slattery, Social Anthropologist, recently got a new publishing deal for his witty and insightful book How to be Irish. The book has just been translated into German. Here is the quirky cover we photographed in Marsh's Library recently and published by Random House in Germany. David also published the very entertaining Poet, Madman, Scoundrel - 189 Unusual Irish Lives. Christmas gifts anyone?

'Three' Christmas Catalogue 2014

I did some work on the 'Three' mobile phone Christmas catalogues and marketing material including bus shelters. Always technically tricky to photograph mobile phones with their highly reflective surfaces and subtle design features. But very satisfying when completed. Post production was completed by the agency.

Time Magazine nominates Food Cloud founder and Bite Project sitter

The very talented Iseult Ward founder of Food Cloud, has been receiving accolades from all parts of the world. Recently she was nominated by Time Magazine as a 'Next Generation Leader' and got a full page article to boot. She sat for me as part of The Bite Project earlier this year. It is great to see her and her colleagues get acknowledgement for their great work and brilliantly clever app. Here is the shot we did with Iseult.

Off Mike - Mike Murphy's life in broadcasting & art.

We met up with the wonderfully charming radio & television doyen Mike Murphy recently. We needed to do his portrait for an upcoming fund raising talk he is giving for Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda. As a young boy growing up I spent all my breakfast times listening to Mike on his radio breakfast show. It was the only radio show. There was only one radio station. It never went to his head. He is a delight to work with. With his voice of honey as good as it was when I listened to him all those years ago.
Go to Highlanes Gallery web site: http://www.highlanes.ie/Activity.aspx?ActivityID=254 for more information on the event.

Barry Douglas's latest release Brahms - Vol III.

Spent a day recently photographing the renowned pianist Barry Douglas. He is a lovely man to work with and what an incredibly talented pianist. It was a lovely day and I think I can say we all had a very creative and fun time with everybody working together and generating a great atmosphere. Stephen McCusker did a wonderful job on hair and Julie-Ann Ryan did an equally great job on make up. We spent time in the studio and also at a few near by city locations, photographing both Barry and the very talented flautist Eimear McGeown. The photography is being used for new releases - Celtic Reflections and the just released Brahms Vol III, Works for Solo Piano and general publicity.
You can listen to the music at: http://www.barrydouglas.com

Sitters with their Bite Project portraits

It was lovely to meet some of the people that sat for their portrait at the Bite Project exhibition at Taste of Dublin. The weather was cracking and the atmosphere was great at the event. You could here the tills ringing right across the city.
Here are the few people I got to photograph on my iPhone with their portraits.

Howth Selfie

I just caught this group doing a selfie at the start of the East Pier in Howth. I only had my iPhone to hand. But considering the shot was taken on a phone, and with a bit of post production tweaking, it looks pretty good to me. Nice selfie extension pole too.

Grey Heron on the Grand Canal.

There was a time when grey herons were one of the shyist birds in the country. But over the last 20 years they have been moving into more urban areas. And with this move into the city the have become much more comfortable in the presence of humans. This one I met on the canal recently. The bird was two metres at most away from me and not bothered at all by my presence. And continued to enjoy its lunch of something slimey.

Bewley's Café Archive

I was really delighted to be asked by Bewley's Café on Grafton St., Dublin, to photograph contemporary activity for their own historical archive. Bewley's Café, with its long history, have lots of images and photographs from the past but very little from today. So it was a real honour for me to work my way around the cafe and photograph all that happens in a day in such a beautiful Dublin icon. The biggest challenge was dealing with the very low light levels. I was able to draw on the ever changing advancements in digital technology to over come this. I am still flabbergasted when I compare this process to when I started out in photography using film. You can view a selection of prints in Bewley's Café on Grafton St., when you order you next coffee.
Here are some of the results.
